Q: Generally, what is File Napper?
A: File Napper is a program designed just like Napster. However, it has the ability to trade any file. It also does not depend on a single server to work. An example of a network that did use a single server is Napster. If you installed a filter, or turned off one Napster server, all Napster users would not be able to connect to their network. However, File Napper uses public chat servers, to connect to one another and search for files. If you did get kicked off a chat server, then your still have your connections to the other ones. (File Napper uses multiple connections to chat servers at one time)
Q: Can I share and download more that just music? What can I share?
A: Yes, with File Napper you can share and download any file.
Q: Can assholes on the other end stop my transfer near the end?
A: No, File Napper does not give transfer controls to the host. But in return, you can only download one files at a time from a certain user.
Q: Can this work on a private network?
A: Yes! Just add the IP address and Port of a accessible IRC server or I-Hub. For more information click the "NETOWRK" button at the top of this page. However, you can only see and search 4 files on the users connected to the same server as you.
Q: O shit does this mean that this will even work at my school / work / any networked computer?
A: Yes, just start the program if you have Internet access. If not then you need to enter the IP address or domain name and port information of any accessible IRC or I-Hub server. For more information click the "NETWORK" button at the top of this page.
Q: How do I set up a computer for IRC or I-Hub server and not let anyone know about it?
A: All you need to do is find IRC server software. This is easier than you think. I suggest you goto Error! Bookmark not defined. and search for "IRC Server", this should give you a list of IRC server software(s) to pick from.
Also, I-Hub is not out yet. I hope to have an experimental version out by August 20th, 2001
Q: Once I have set up and IRC server on a computer, how do I let people go onto it?
A: You will need to find out what port your server is set to. If you do not know, just have your users not fill in a port number, (File Napper should automatically fill in the default port number). Then you will need to find out your IP address. To do this, click START, the RUN. In the text box, type:
WINIPCFG
(this is for windows 95 - 98)
Look for a box listing you IP address. ........... If you IP address is blank, then you may need to select a different adapter on the combobox. (NOTE: Users of a privatddresses.) Now, for a person to connect to the server, click "Custom Connection" on the first windows you seen once you start the program. You then type in the needed information which you have just got.
